Dan K. Sykes
Oswego -- Dan K. Sykes, 85, a lifetime Oswego resident, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at the Oswego Manor. He was born July 2, 1913, at Oswego to Ross and Rose (Peters) Sykes. He attended schools at Oswego. Mr. Sykes worked many years at the former Koons Manufacturing Co. as a welder. (The family states this is incorrct in the published obituary. Dan lived in California, working for over 20 years for The Caterpillar Company, before retiring and moving back to Kansas.) His wife, Almeda "Bonnie" Sykes, diedJune 24, 1995. They were married Aug. 6, 1939, at Altamont. (They also did Foster Care.) Mr. Sykes served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Oswego First Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Don Gambril of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Bob Sykes of Pleasanton, Calif.; a brother, Howard of Greenfield, Mo.; two sisters, Ruth Wulf of Oswego and Rose Addis of Chetopa; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.] A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Oakwood Cemetery at Parsons with the Rev. Keith Jacobsen officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Brown-Bishop Post 704,Veterans of Foreign Wars, Parsons. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Murdock Funeral Home of Oswego. |
