Dorothy G. "Dot" Kent  - Obituary

KENT, Dorothy G. "Dot" Dorothy G. "Dot" Kent, 91, of Suffield, died peacefully on Monday (January 30, 2006) at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. Born on February 8, 1914 in Suffield, she was the daughter of the late Fred S. and Nettie Isabelle (Fuller) Kent. A lifelong resident of Suffield, Dot was a graduate of the Suffield Academy with the Class of 1932 and went on to attend the American International College in Springfield, MA. She worked as a florist and bookkeeper for Spaulding Gardens in Suffield for many years. Dot was a faithful member of the Second Baptist Church in Suffield, where she was employed for over 50 years, serving as past president, the custodian and most recently housekeeper. Dot was in charge of the kitchen detail at Second Baptist, a task she put her heart and soul into. The young children within the church knew Dot as "Aunt Dot," as they would often look forward to dipping into the cookie jar she kept full for them in the kitchen. She was a past member of the Second Baptist Choir, former president of the American Baptist Women, and was appointed life Deaconess of the Church. Dot was a 70 year member of the Suffield Grange and was a member of the Mapleton Literary Club. She was predeceased by her family, but had a wonderfully large extended spiritual family at Second Baptist Church. Donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Second Baptist Church, 100 North Main Street, Suffield, CT 06078. A funeral service will be held on Friday February 10 at 10 a.m., at Second Baptist Church. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery on Saturday, February 11 at 10 a.m. Friends may call on Thursday, February 9 from 5-8 p.m. at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St., Suffield.
