     John Blanchard Sherman, 72, retired Union Pacific railroad switchman died at 12:40 p.m . Monday at the home of his son, J. Edward Sherman, 1630 Second Avenue, of complications after five days of illness.
     Mr. Sherman was born April 22, 1867, at Mahoningtown, Pa., and had lived in Council Bluffs forty-two years.  He was employed by the Union Pacific railroad thirty-seven years before his retirement.  He was a member of Excelsior lodge No. 259, AF & AM, Security Benefit association and Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.
     He is survived by three grandchildren.
     The body is at the Cutler mortuary.
