I am seeking information on an Albert SIKES. I first find him in the 1910 Lewis Co., WA census married to Emma (HARRIS) BLANKINSHIP SOMERVILLE. They were living with Emma's son, Frank Blankinship in Napavine, Lewis Co., WA. Albert was 47, born in Germany, immigrated in 1891/92. He was naturalized and working as a laborer in a sawmill. The census states this was his 2nd marriage. I have no information on another marriage. In 1920 Albert & Emma were separated or divorced, living in different precincts in Lewis county. Albert died in January 1929, & was buried 29 January 1929 in Mt. View Cemetery, Centralia, LewisCo., WA. If anyone has any information on Albert, especially before 1910, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thank you. Jenna Cain, 235 Dluhosh Rd., Onalaska, WA 98570-9657 jenna@myhome.net
e-09 Dec 2002 Searching for info on Afleta "Fletia" SIKES who married Daniel Boone DONOHO (1875-1964) in March of 1898, probably in Tennessee. Daniel Boone Donoho is the son of Ridley Martin Donoho (1848-1936). Thanks, Doug Fricke, 1410 Hancel Parkway, Mooresville, IN 46158 DCFricke@elrodviking.com
e-29 Oct 2002 We are looking for information on the ancestry of a James Henry SIKES/SYKES (born 3/24/1848) in Florida and his brother Napoleon Bonaparte SIKES/SYKES (born 9/7/1846) in Florida. We know from the 1880 census that their father was born in NC and their mother was born in Florida. We also know that both Sykes brothers married PLUMMER sisters. We know that N.B. SIKES was a Church of Christ preacher for 33 years and that in a book about his life it mentions that he migrated at age 4 (1850) to Texas from Florida. That family that is in Texas is my husband's lineage. Mike is a great-grandson of James Henry Sikes. The family has spelled the name both ways. On James Henry Sikes' daughter Eureka's marriage certificate she spelled it both ways! We wonder if these men were descendants of the John Sikes that came in to Norfolk, VA about 1637. We hear he had a large family that spread to North Carolina. If you can help us please contact us. Mike and Jessie Cheek, 6652 Kingman Trail, Tallahassee, FL 32309 MikeJessieCheek@cs.com

e-25 Mar 2002 Oxford Ancestors has informed me that my Y-chromosome DNA does not match the majority of those with the SYKES surname. They have also informed me that I'm very likely descended from a Viking! My branch of the "SYKES" family lived at Honley Wood Bottom, West Yorkshire. A review of the Almondbury Parish records finds that George, son of Mary Sykes of Honley Wood Bottom - with no father listed, was baptized on 17 November 1744. My branch of the family frequently named the oldest son George. To prove this lineage, an attempt is being made to locate male-line descendants of Mary's male-line ancestors, and to compare their DNA with the male-line descendants of "George the First". I am the only known male-line descendant of my great grandfather John Sykes. However he had a brother named Joseph. In 1885, at the time of Joseph's death, sons Benjamin Lindley lived in Oakdale MA, John Charles lived in Millville MA, Edmund T lived in Minneapolis MN, Luther F lived in South Framingham MA, Alvin N lived in Millville MA and William W lived in Minneapolis MN. Two other sons, Friend and Welcome, died young. The one daughter, Marietta, also lived in Minneapolis. Eight sons and one daughter -- poor mother! Any information concerning any of these men would be greatly appreciated. Incidentally, Dr. SYKES was a physician who lived in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. His collection of more than one hundred volumes of Sykes family records is housed in the Doncaster Library. More information on this collection will be available after a visit in May. Dave SYKES (postal address withheld) DSykes2@aol.com

SYKES & Elsa unknown. Their first male child (my grandfather) was named Alvah born 14/2/1992 in Johnson Co., Missouri.. I believe Charlie Edward born in Johnson Co, Missouri in 4/7/1874 - son of Charlie Edwin (started out in Pennsylvania [I think] but moved to Johnson County) - then spent a number of years with relatives (Sykes in Nebraska?) 1903-1910 before immigrating to Alberta around 1911.
