I am researching the descendants of Edward SYKES who married Sarah DAVIS on 29/01/1801 at Christchurch, Stepney, Spitafields, London.

My Great Grandfather Albert SYKES was Edward and Sarah’s grandson. Albert was baptised on 21/05/1837, at St. Andrews Church, Enfield, Middlesex. As far as I know his siblings were:
Sarah – baptised 21/05/1826 at Stepney, Spitafields; Edward William – baptised 22/02/1829 at Stepney, Spitafields; and Frances Mary – baptised 19/04/1835 at St. Andrews Church, Enfield, Middlesex.

I was under the impression that he had more than one brother but am not sure on this point. My great grandfather, Albert’ parents were Edward SYKES – born 15/07/1804, Stepney, Spitafields, London and Sarah ADAMS. They were married 31/01/1825 at St. Bride’s Church, Fleet Street London.

I would love to hear from anyone who has any information on this family line and would love to share anything I have that may be of interest.

My maternal grandmother was Olive Maude SYKES.  She was the granddaughter of General George SYKES (b. 9 Oct 1822, Dover, Delaware, d. 8 Feb 1880, Ft. Brown, Brownsville, TX, buried in West Point Cemetery.)  General SYKES was a graduate of the United States Military Academy, class of 1842.  Aside from the story that he was supposed to have one brother, McCrea SYKES, and one sister, name unknown but was supposed to have married someone named FEAST, I know nothing about this part of my lineage.

Olive Maude SYKES married John Earl FEAGINS in December, 1920.  They were from the Watonga, OK area (Blaine and Kingfisher Counties, I think.)  Olive, had one brother, George Sykes, who survived to adulthood.  He married  Viola Crane and I believe they had two children.

I would like to get in touch with anyone who might have information about this part of the Sykes Family.   Any information would be appreciated.

Good Day!  Have you come across any info regarding a Freda SYKES or SIKES who may have served in or near Oxford during WW2 while serving in the Women's Land Army? I am trying to help a friend make contact with her or her daughter, Annette SYKES. It is believed that as of 1994, neither one had married. Annette was born during WW2. Freda would have been born around 1921, believe. If you have any input to help us in our search, it would be greatly appreciated.  Sincerely,

Looking for James SYKES born abt 1822 (? England). The date of his birth is taken from age given at death (75) in Tasmania, Australia. in 1897. The first accurate evidence of James is his marriage to Jane ROFFEY in Tasmania in 1860. There were 12 children to this union and they are my direct ancestors. James was a butcher and lived and worked in the Hobart area in the 1860's. Also looking for details of William SYKES and Elizabeth ENO. They married in 1820 in Tasmania. There were 5 children and Elizabeth marr William WELLS in 1835 after William SYKES died.

Also looking for any details re Timothy Sykes MIDGELY (mother's maiden name SYKES)

Am currently working on a database of all the SYKES I can find in Tasmania in the 1800's. It appears there were at least 5 families, but some of these do tie in to others. Hopefully someone may have come across our James. Apparently he had a brother ? William or John. His first son was William James SYKES and his eldest dau was Jane after her mother and second dau was Elizabeth (? was this after James' mother) If I can help with anything here, please feel free to ask.

We have found a gravestone in Northeast Dale County, Alabama, in the Old Magnolia Cemetery. It reads Mary SYKES / born / Sept. 3, 1835 / Died / Feb. 23, 1905. / Gone to rest. This cemetery has about 50 graves and most of those buried there are related in some way with the predominant last names of STRICKLAND, DYKES, TURNER, JAMES, We have, through bible records and census films, determined this Mary SYKES was born in North Carolina as Mary STRICKLAND, daughter of Mathew L. and Elizabeth Lane STRICKLAND. As of the 1900 census, she was living in Dale County, Alabama, with her widowed sister Martha WEATHERS. We hope someone can give us a clue to who the Mr. SYKES was that Mary wed, where they were married and where he might be buried.

Seeking birth and death information for Benjamin SYKES who lived in Lancaster, England between 1750 and 1799.  Benjamin married the daughter of Lancaster sea merchant George WOODHOUSE.

SYKES in England. I am seeking birth and death information on Walter George SYKES, eldest son of Henry Sykes. Walter was born about 1832, and married Ann BOWERS in Manchester Cathedral Oct. 16, 1855.
I'd also like information about Walter George's father, Henry Sykes. Henry Married Mary Anne SHERRIFFE about 1829-30. This information came from the 1851 census report. They lived at 28 Hyde St., Hulme-Manchester.
Henry Sykes father was Benjamin Sykes, husband of Ann WOODHOUSE. Benjamin died in the 1790's.  I know the Woodhouse family was very well established in Manchester. Ann's brother was Peter Woodhouse.  Benjamin and Ann Sykes named one of their sons Peter Woodhouse Sykes.  Can anyone help fill in the gaps? Birth and death information would be a huge help. Thank you.
