Robert E. "Bob" Sherman

Robert E. "Bob" Sherman passed away September 27, 2008 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.  Bob was a lifetime resident of Council Bluffs, member of St. John Lutheran Church, member of Excelsior Lodge #259 AF&AM, American Ex POW's-Omaha Chapter #1.  During his entire life he enjoyed playing in several bands including Thomas Jefferson High School Band, American Legion Band, National Guard Band, Iowa Western Band and the Elks Club Band.  While in the U.S. Army National Guard he was activated during WWII into the U.S. Army and was a POW for 26 months.  He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1981 after 35 years of service.  He was preceded in death by his parents John E. and Lillian (Furler) Sherman and his sister Irene Mize.  He is survived by his brother, Walter Sherman and wife JoAnn, of Council Bluffs; nieces Sue E. Mize and Kathy Batie (Eric), of Council Bluffs and Cindy Sherman of Bellevue, NE; nephew John Sherman (JoAnn) of Marshalltown, IA; numerous great and great great nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL SERVICE 1 p.m. Tuesday September 30 at the funeral home with Pastor Jon Benson officiating.  Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Military Honors by American Legion Post #2.  Following the services there will be a luncheon at the Masonic Temple.  Memorials acceptable to St. John Lutheran Church of Charity of your choice
